Our Parent’s Story

When our parents realised that living in our family home was starting to cause more problems than joy, we looked into alternative options.

The Whiston Court retirement community allowed them to get their independence back.

They purchased the leasehold on their two bedroom apartment. Knowing they had the security of ownership was important to our parents. They wanted to have the freedom to adapt and decorate the space as they felt appropriate without needing to seek permission. They also wanted the peace of mind of living without additional expense of rent.

It did take some adjustment getting used to a smaller property. However, the rooms full of light and the ease of access quickly resolved any feelings of change.

Why Our Parent’s Loved
Whiston Court

The first thing that struck our parents about Whiston Court was the immediate feel of community. It didn’t feel like an ‘old people’s home’.

The staff are vibrant, friendly and always ready for a natter. Other residents all have interesting lives and stories to tell. The space has been fully adapted to the needs of a less mobile community – lifts, flat surfaces, wide entrances and the interiors remain tasteful, charming and welcoming throughout.

Knowing they had someone to call anytime if they had a fall was of great comfort. They enjoyed the hot lunch – removing the burden of cooking. Most of all they enjoyed the company of other residents.

How life improved for our parents living in Whiston Court.

Living in Worcester City Centre was a key part of our parents experience. Previously mum and dad were in a rural setting, on the outskirts of Worcester. Losing friends nearby and confidence with driving added to their feelings of isolation.

1Dad was able to frequently visit Worcester cricket ground by bus or on his mobility scooter. Dad really enjoyed the ‘ride’ through the centre, along the river and across the bridge.

2 Mum really enjoyed the opportunity to take part in activities – the monthly socials run at Whiston Court and also art classes in Worcester.

3 Mum made some amazing connections with local businesses as their needs changed. She set up an arrangement with a local laundrette to collect and return items to residents for free.

4 The guest room in Whiston Court made it much easier for friends and family to visit. Both Dad’s brother Graham and son James were able to visit more frequently and stay the night.

5 We enjoyed the opportunity to pop-in and spend time as a family in their apartment – there’s no visiting hours or restrictions on what you can do in their apartment. It really was their home.

Request a Viewing

The apartment is being sold by Philip Laney & Jolly, based in Worcester. They are the estate agent of choice for Whiston Court and can show you all properties available at the same visit.

Led by James Wilson, the team are very knowledgeable about all aspects of life at Whiston Court. When a viewing is arranged, you will also be introduced to staff at Whiston Court.

We hope your visit goes well and you enjoy Whiston Court as much as our parents did.
